Hello,i often see people like myself from the U.K asking for alternatives for the most popular medications/treatments used in the U.S and discussed on here. When i decided to try and source a decent range for myself i found out just how difficult it is here. The only things i could get were Cupramine,Prazipro (ridiculously expensive) and Selcon(even more so). None of the other meds commonly used are available here. I decided to buy a decent range from Kens Fish in the U.S and just pay the costs. I stocked up on Prazipro,Copper Power,Kanaplex,Metroplex,General cure,Furan-2,Focus and Ruby reef rally. All in all it was around $100 plus roughly the same again for postage. It came to £177 for roughly 3 years according to use buy dates. I figured that within 3 years (barring major incidents) i would probably have my fish stocks where i want them so with my customs etc payments it was just over £200 which isnt much more expensive than 3 or 4 fish so definitely worth doing, especially if a few U.K members perhaps grouped orders to combine shipping. We have a pair of Blue Throated Triggerfish hopefully arriving next week so we feel much more prepared for them than we were, fingers crossed!

You could get most or all of those meds from a veterinarian if you have an established relationship with one.

I get some of the medications from a compounding pharmacy here in the US and maybe it could be a source in the UK. For example, Metroplex is 70% metronidazole compared to the one I get from the compounding pharmacy which is 100% USP grade metronidazole and cheaper. Good luck!

Hello @Humblefish ,thanks for that, the way things are between the U.K and the rest of the E.U at the minute,it was probably just as easy to get it sent from the U.S like i did. I have seen General Cure and a couple of others on amazon.co.uk but when you look into it properly, they are coming from the U.S anyhow.

I don't know if he'll ship internationally, but this is who I buy all my meds from: https://www.fishchemical.com/FULL-PRODUCT-LIST-2338.Category.html

They aren't exactly pharmaceutical grade (99% pure), but usually hover in the 94-96% purity range. Which is a heck of a lot better than you're going to get from some aquarium company. The problem is you have to buy in bulk (usually at least 1 kg), so this option only makes sense if you could go in with some other hobbyists and then split the meds. Maybe Ultimate Reef could organize some sort of "group buy"??
