GFO a good or bad idea?

Normally frozen is PE mysis, and rods original. Pellets formula one and two pellets, sustainable aquatics pellets, and dk1 pellets. I add selcon, vitachem and reef roids mixed in with the food 2-3 times a week. I mix the pellets with the frozen. I have some large fish and do feed heavily. I don't remember ever not having to clean the glass at least twice a week on any tank if had over the last 8+ years. I'm far from a neat freak too.

Your feeding a lot so that means more fish waste that could be why…

Your system seems to have very high light, correct me if I’m wrong but, you can run high nutrient with high lighting ? Lower nutrient means lower lighting? I read something somewhere about this.

It isn't a rule IMO. Just observations mostly.

The top of the rocks and corals sat in 400ish PAR and the sand was getting 170 PAR. The torch coral you see was sitting in 250-300 PAR and absolutely loved it.

I’ve noticed if I use too much carbon I kind of get the same effect, have you noticed this before?

I run moonshiners method and don’t do water changes, so carbon is a must. No issues here.

I have to mix in 40% or 50% GFO with carbon to keep my phosphates below .15. The refugium keeps nitrates 1-2.

The acros don’t like phosphates much above .2

Coral get used to where the tank runs.
After a while in the parameter, that's where they like to be. Try to raise or lower from there to fast, coral will be upset.

These is my theory anyway.

Don't chase the number, 0.04 is pretty low.

Lesson learned , going to clean up the tank in the morning I’ll deal with the glass then.

Good idea but not for a new tank. Also very easy to overdose the ferric oxide. I think the recommended amount is too much material and you should probably cut that in half and slowly work around those results.
