Is there any disadvantages to running GFO when I had my 90gal set up all my sps would pop. now that evrything in in my 120 the environment for my coral and fish are all in the same water condition wise but I did add a carbon reactor and GFO reactor about 5 months ago and it just seems to me that the coral dont seem to pop like they did

So my question is does anyone think that its my GFO or carbon doing this

I run brs roxy and brs high capacity

For me I stopped running GFO. I noticed that my tank that I was not using it on was consistantly looking better than my larger one that was. Both tanks were using the same water and params were about the same. But I have known others that have used it with great success.

I run 1/2 the recommended dose or about 5 grams per 10 gallons of system volume 24/7/365 as a preventive measure. Cheap insurance but not enough media to mess with water parameters.

I use it passively in my sump but that's it. I used to use it in a reactor but took that offline when I went to the 125G I noticed the same thing as my corals in the 75G looked better without it...

I run brs Rox and GFO as well. I seem to change out my GFO every month or so. My carbon I switch out every 2-3 months, probably should do sooner but it doesn't seem to affect anything.

With GFO it seems after a few weeks, it starts to break down and it clouds my tank up. So I have contemplated just eliminating the reactor all together and just putting it in a filter sock. Haven't really noticed much of a difference between my corals when running and not running tho.
