Alright, ive been fighting GHA for 5 or 6 months now, manual pulling, bolstered CUC, light feeding schedule, no coral feeding. Nothing I seem to do helps. I read 0 nitrates and phosphates (assuming the GHA is holding it all), My parameters are all where the should be 9 Alk 1350 mag, 400 calc, TDS of RO water is 0. I cant find any related problems, at this point. I really would like to stay away from chemical and I'm apprehensive to get a sea hare just cause I'm not sure I could rehome it in time. If push comes to shove I do have a second tank I can move all my stock too while I test out things.

Would anyone have any suggestions I could try out or possible reasons that could be causing my outbreak? I'm pretty much open to anything at this point.

Whats your water change schedule??? And how big of a tank? Skimmer usage? What test kits you using? How is your coraline progressing?

I use Salifret testers, its a 15g with a weekly 2.5g water change. I don't have a skimmer, with not a lot of coraline. I have liverock in a separate tank I plan on adding soon though

Ok, then theres a few issues. Main culprit is the 15g, they are harder to maintian initially. I too have been fighting with gha in the wifes 14g. But its getting better, 6 months later. I am doing 2.5 every 2 weeks, coraline is just now starting to take off. The skimmer is built into the hob filter, cheap fluval kind. Id recommend a skimmer for something this small. Hell, id recommend a skimmer for any tank...

Once the coraline takes off, the algea will slow down, its just getting to that point thats hard. Stick with it, eventually it will mature, its already starting.
They do make small reactors if you wanna try your hand with that, for gfo or carbon. Or bettet yet run it underneath the cabinet externally...

how many fish do you have and how often do you feed? What type of filtration do you have?

It sounds like an imbalance between import and export. If too much nutrients imported into the system and not enough exported, algae is the result.

the tank is a little under a year old and already went through its initial ugly stage

I have 3 fish, 2 clowns and a blenny. Ive got an in tank sump, its got a filter sock that I wash every other day. 2 course sponges (that get cleaned once a week) in terms of nutrient export I have a clump of dragons breath in the sump that is still growing in. and I'm feeding 1/4 mysis cube once a week. Ill get some photos when I'm home in an hour or two.
