Hey, my 18" red serpent's oral disk is turning yellow on top. After some research it seems he might be malnourished. I've started feeding him pieces of diced seafood. Anyone confirm or deny this?

[HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG] ive heard the same about the yellowness. I would feed him just incase it is indeed nutritional reasons

A starfish that big needs to be directly fed. Mine is only 10" and I feed it every other day. If I see it out hunting at night, I feed it even more.

I dont know about them changing color die to malnutrition, but I do know that you should try to feed your star directly when possible. Mine will actually fight my eel for his silversides if I dont feed him often enough. It's pretty funny to watch, especially if he wins and swallows the whole silver side.... his center disk gets super deformed from the fish and looks like something out of beetlejuice!

I try to push the food mix his way but maybe the pieces are too small. I've started feeding him 1/4" diced mixed seafood. Clams, shrimp, mussles, oysters. Ill have to lure him out tonight to get another look. My 10" yellow banded serpent seems fine.

I alternate feeding mind sinking shrimp pellets and chunks of actual shrimp. He seems to prefer the pellets, I think they're easier to digest, but honestly I can't tell.

Here he is. My glass is dirty. Don't judge me. Lol but the yellow is getting better. It was worse the other day. So it must be food. Ill keep updating to be sure. Threw in some shots of my yellow too.the two hang out a lot and the contrast is great. :-) my cell phone cam light does it no justice.
