Hey fellow reefers,

I installed a Giesemann Infinity 24'' fixture over my tank yesterday. I am currently running 4x Blue Plus T5's, but have been trouble figuring out which halide bulb to use.

I initially tried an USHIO 10k, which was extremely yellow, despite supplementation with the 4x blue plus bulbs

I then tried a Giesemann Megachrome Coral (~14k), which ended up looking just as yellow!

Is it normal for lower kelvin metal halides to burn yellow initially and will these bulbs shift to a bluer spectrum as they burn in?

I am running them on an Icecap Ballast on the 250W HQI setting.

One of my go to bulbs is an ushio 20k I know it says 20k but it is most similar to a Phoenix 14k I used to run actinic and ushio 20k all the time.

Some shift color a bit over a week. Some do not. I would guess that it is possible, but not a guarantee.

To my eyes the Giesemann Coral is always as yellow as the Giesemann Marine, so I prefer using the Giesemann Crystal bulbs supplemented with T5.

I'm looking at the spectrum above the tank and there's definitely no yellow. I wonder if I just have excess organics in the tank. Maybe the yellow will disappear with some activated carbon.
