Glass Scratch Fix

I purchased a 29 Gallon Biocube used for a good deal recently. It was very dirty and after I cleaned it I noticed it was severely scratched all over. I searched the forums and internet for ways to take scratches out of glass. I finally determined cerium oxide and a polishing pad on a drill would be the best bet. I had an 8 oz portion and used it off and in for 1.5 weeks until the drill battery would exhaust. I filled the tank with water again tonight and it worked the majority of scratches are gone. I only post this to let people know it is possible but patience is key.

Thanks for sharing. I will be honest in saying I have never heard of many people try to remove glass scratches with success. Do you have any before and after pictures?

I'm glad you had success.
I tried a few years back and mostly failed.
I put 4-5 hours into a tank and the scratches never really went away.
I did find that once water was in it, it was much harder to see the scratches.

I didn’t really take a ton of pictures but here was one area. You could still see all scratches with water in the tank. Now I can only see a few.

The top is before any polishing the second is after a few rounds and the last is the final product.

wow this looks exactly like a tank i just bought with the scratches.... probably same situation that it was dirty and didnt really notice to that extent when purchasing but once cleaned up it looked horrible. Hoping that the same thing works for mine...
