It's been a long long time since I even looked at this thread. So here's an update since this last post from 2021
. In October of 2021 we ended up selling our first house where my 180 was. The tank was broken down and put into storage where it was sold. We moved into my father in laws house with a 150 gallon tote where we kept most of my rock and all of my fish. They lived in that for about 7 months until our house was finished being built.
House was finally complete. unfortunately we lost a firefish (jumped) an emperor angel (no idea) during the 7 months in the tote.
July 2022 we finally moved in and I was in contact with Joe over at glasscages. In the new house due to how its set up the only tank we could fit and not look awful and out of place was a 100gallon. So this tank will have to do until we finish the basement. There I am looking into a glasscages 300-450 gallon range.
October 2023 the tank, stand and canopy finally came. The quality from glasscages is amazing. Joe really turned this company around. With a case of adult beverages, wings and pizza, I convinced some friends to come help move the fun stuff from the garage into the first floor. Unfortunately a lot of the equipment from the 180 was way too big for a 3foot by 2foot tank. So looks like we are buying all new stuff except for the apex. brs heaters with ink bird, ecotech Radion gen6 xr30 and one xr15, ecotech mp40 and a cor15 return pump.
December 2023 we finally got the fish into the tank after a long cycle process with dr. Tims. At last the 150 tote is gone. Fish list: 2 clowns, flame hawk, royal gamma, 2 firefish, yellow tang, purple tang, melanarus wrasse and a yellow assessor. The tangs came from the 180 and so far no aggression with each other in a smaller tank. Hoping within the next 5 years we will finish the basement get the bigger tank and be able to get more fish. I really miss having a bigger tank. I feel so limited with a smaller tank fish wise and space for equipment is a lot tighter in a smaller stand/sump.
March 2026 update: Ended up getting rid of the smaller nyos skimmer because it just couldn't keep up with the bioload with a heavy stocked tank. Ended up getting the nyos 160 with the upgrade kit. So far this thing is skimming some nasty smelly junk out of the tank. We ended up with a few more fish and lost some fish from the last update. My 13 almost 14 year old clown passed from what im assuming old age. We lost my 10 year old melanarus wrasse which I'm also assuming old age. A pintail wrasse and a fire fish decided to somehow carpet surf even with a canopy. Still fighting cyano and looks like hair algae. Been doing water changes every two weeks, running GFO and the added bigger skimmer seems to be helping. thats all we got for now
Also not tank related May 30th 2024 we had our daughter. She decided to make an early entrance two months early. She absolutely loves the fish tank. I will get home from work and she will run over and say fishy fishy and we will go look at the tank.
