Gluing SPS

How do you glue you sps once it is fragged? I remember seeing some where that some people glue them on their side so more of the coral is on the disk or plug. This way it encrusted fast. Does this actually work?

I always try to do that. IME it grows faster just because you have more surface area of the frag exposed to the light. I almost always lay them down now. Mine definitely encrusted faster.

I never knew that but definitely makes sense. I just recently frag a piece of my Garf Bonsai and it is already growing a base within a few days.

So are you saying to lay a stick down instead of vertical?

I only lay them down if they are slow growers. Otherwise I go vertical.

I glue all frags upright,I hate them laid over on the side.it makes the frags look too small for my taste.I'd rather wait a little longer for them to encrust then have them on there sides.

Either way looks great and I do it both ways... I try to Glue them upright for the most part but if I have a hard time getting it stand up on it's own I just glue them on there side...

I glue some of them down so they encrust faster.

When I glue frags (only try milli so far), horizontally to the rock so that 1 face is exposed to the light... They seem to shoot up branches up alot quicker and still encrusting at the same time

Gluing, horizontally, also allows the cut edge to receive current, helping it heal faster. Also, horizontally, the coral can grow more directions, than just up.

i do both based on how the frag was cut. they do tend to shoot out new branches quicker when laid down; will just look a little odd until they do compared to the other sticks.

Yea no point in gluing birdsnest on their side since they barely encrust. Not sure if growth would be better on their side though.

It encrusts better on its side because it has more surface area contact, works the same way as if you glue it the other way. I just glue mine the way I want them to look and leave them. They encrust eventually.....

would depend on which species you are referring too how much it tends to do. my ORA BoP encrusted the entire frag plug it is glued to, i have to keep moving it around the frag/prop tank so that it does not encrust the eggcrate (it would if i were to leave it in one place)

I prefer to glue the acro at an angle, not vertical or horizontal. This way they can encrust well and hopefully new branches will form out of the main branch

Cut generous frags and than it doesn't matter, than you have to glue them up or they will hang over the plug. At least thats the way it should be. IMO
