every time I add a goby or fire fish to my tank they go missing within a day or two. I have a small gold coral band shrimp and a very small sea serpent starfish. Could they be killing these fish at night when they sleep or is it just bad luck? Thanks any other fish do great.

Yes i do have a lid I fould my last fire fish all eating but the bones left in the tank

Serpent star is the usual suspect.

Fish that sleep in bolt hole are easy prey for a serpent star that has learned to eat sleeping fish.

If the serpent star is green with yellowish brityles then it is the likely culprit. If it is not that species, then it it is highly unlikely to be the serpent star, as most of them are not predatory.

It could be the shrimp, especially since a skeleton was found. A predatory star will leave no remains at all.
