Goby missing

I got a watchman goby from my lfs and I have a pistol shrimp coming in the mail. When I put the watchman goby in I saw it for a lil bit then it was gone. I wasn't surprised lol. Then I was sorta rescaping my tank and I took all my rocks out and I still didn't see him. I even used my hands to sift around in the sand. Still no sign. I have a lid on my tank with no gaps. The only thing I can think of is he might have jumped out when I wasn't looking while doing maintenance. I did look on the floor and I don't see any sign. But that doesn't mean he can't be there. Also I don't think anything in the overflow but it can be hard to see in there.

I can't see how it can just magically disappear. But do y'all think it's too soon to buy a new one? Because I don't want my pistol shrimp that's coming to be sad

He can easily be hiding, and moving everything around certainly stressed it out more. Leave things alone for a while and see if he doesn't come out in a few days.

Yeah you're right it was poor timing with rescaping the tank. I'll be sure to leave everything alone now. Do they live in the rocks or the sand?

They generally burrow in the sand.
