I’ve got two gonis and red and green one and they’ve never fully opened in my tank and there on the sand bed I’m not sure what it could be maybe high calcium and too low phosphate

I’ll take pictures soon the tank turns on at 1 will take picture in about bit

Can you give details on lighting and flow? I find they can acclimate to light, but they do like a certain amount of flow.

Agreed. Mine have never flinched at lighting. And I run fairly high par. Flow they can be moody. Mine have always opened some just not much if they are unhappy with the flow. But prob wouldn't if they were getting smashed with flow. Low nutrients tho they eventually stop opening at all

I’ve had them for a while but can never get them to open up all the way fully I’m not sure what it is but it may be phosphates or high calcium

The flow is just right it’s just a tad bit high and par has to be atleast 100

"at least 100 par" sounds low to me. Mine are under high lighting.

If you've had them for a while and they never fully open up, I would move them, try a different spot.

But honestly you haven't posted any pics yet so we're just giving information to you.

Goni's have stems of different lengths, some are short and some are long. Often new hobbyists wait for 'short stem' goni to extend but it will never extend. But again pics will help.

I think I need to raise my nutrients for sure but yes I will move them for sure but the tentacles I would say around about almost an inch open and the tentacles don’t look fluffy

It could be a bernardpora instead of goni. They are the same as goni but have shorter stem

No before I bought them I saw there tentacles atleast 6in

Calcium 350
Par 50-75
Phosphate 1.04
Alk 9

I don’t think the numbers themselves are as important as we think

Do u ever feed them or something?
Mines semi opening too
Yes I will test this week
I never feed them. And I have tried many things, and many tips from others, and I don’t believe they eat conventionally. I think they simply absorb nutrients like a sponge

I think that’s why mine don’t open as much there’s completely no phosphates in my tank

No phos is why you're battling algae. You really need a microscope to ID what kind it is.

If nothing works to raise it, I would dose NeoPhos.

As for the gonis, I'll try and remember to take a pic tonight, I have a few, they are all in the same place, and they are all in different states of openness.

In a word, gonis are: Challenging.

Yeah definitely trying to raise my phosphates now but nitrates staying and my calcium and magnesium is pretty high

I attached some photos so you can take a look but I’m not sure what could be causing it to not be as happy but I’m about to move the red one to higher par in the tank

Don’t look bad at all. How close is the red one to the acan?

Now that I think of it it’s pretty close but I think I’m gonna mount him on the back wall and let him grow

Yeah they have feeder tentacles which might be stinging the Goni. I’d move it just to be sure.

Yeah for sure and I was wondering how do you find people who have corals around you and who to contact for them
