Just a bit of good news from the n00b corner--it won't be much to most of you, I'm sure, but it's like winning a battle round to me. The diatoms are collecting slower, AND the cyano is history! I used chemiclean and thought it didn't work, but when I did my water change this morning and blew the diatoms off the rock the stubborn cyano, which most of had turned pink, blew off too so I grabbed it with the turkey baster the best I could, and out of the tank it went. Also, my water's looked murky/cloudy/thick from the side, but that's looking better too and it was even before the water change.
Now the bad news--I DO have some hair algae growing at the top of the back wall, and on the wall of the overflow, and on a couple of rocks lightly as well. I scraped some of it off when the water level was below it, so I could get it completely out of the tank, but there's still a fair bit in there. Will this eventually go away, or should I be doing something else? I have a better amount of cleanup crew, thanks to Michael, and am hoping some of them or maybe my lawnmower blenny will munch on it. Fingers crossed!

Always great to learn and win a battle over algae!

tina are you using any chaeto or something like to export nutrients? a good big batch of chaeto in your fuge usually keeps these things from showing up much if at all.

Yes I have so much chaeto I had to take some out and stuff in another tank! I was wishing I'd brought some with me to the meeting, and will try to remember for the next one. A friend told me to keep it under control as too much will throw the system off fast. It grows like--a weed!! :)
It's a great looking plant though.
