I got a free sps frag today that is completely encrusted the frag plug but looks like some of the top died off a while ago... should I cut the dead part or will the coral grow over the dead part?

Thank in advance

I dont see any dead part at all. I see polyp extension all the way to the top.

Nice piece.

Well I zoomed in on it a bit more and I can see the color change. If that part is truly dead, I would let it get used to my tank for a couple weeks, then I would cut that part off and let it heal and regrow.

Thanks for the feed back guys I will leave it for now. My lfs sold me this one and another one for $15 each so I decided to take a chance with them... no clue what kind they are or what color they will be ... here is the other one

Zooming in on the picture, it looks like algae has started to grow on the top half of the frag. It looks like more than just the tip is STN'ing. I would cut off the bad part and dip it to kill any possible infection.
