the Affordable Care Act seems to be another way of taxation. It it be mandatory for people to have health insurance regardless if you're young and healthy. I like the perks it has, but that mandatory or be fine isn't helping.

The problem anyone can find themselves in the emergency room regardless of health.
The hospital then has to "write off" that work for those who can not afford it.
They then charge everyone who can pay more to make up the difference.

IMO Everyone should have simple catastrophic coverage insurance to keep them out of bankruptcy should the unthinkable occur.
Premiums for those who are highly unlikely to have an incident should be pretty cheap, but I have not looked since I carry insurance through my employer.

Politicians are votes, the ones elected got the most votes. The problem is simple - it's not the government or the politicians - it's the voters

Our Democracy ensures that everyone over the age of 18 has the right to vote whether they are informed about the issues or not. It upsets me every time I talk politics with people who do nothing but complain about the government, when many of them are not involved enough with the issues to even know what they're complaining about. So many people choose not to be educated on the issues of the day yet choose to talk the most.

Politics have become about money - get yourself a big money donor like the Koch brothers, complain about everything, threaten to shut down the government take your ball and go home, and cash in with a corporate job with them after your term is up for supporting all their anti regulation, anti union, anti avg ordinary american, platforms.

Hopefully one day people will wake up and discover that all these big money Wall Street donors are simple buying politicians to create a peasent society of workers that will not stand together in unions but rather fight for the scrap wages they offer. They have no interest in a middle class - they want cheap labor to line their pockets

Until we as Americans get our head out if the sand, get informed, and vote wisely, the Ted cruises, Michelle backmens, and Sarah palins of the world will run amuck in our government and nothing good will get done - like for example, insuring that all Americans regardless of wealth get affordable health care for themselves and their children.

This law was passed in 2009, upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court, and effective as of today. Now no longer can insurance companies kick you out for pre existing conditions, no longer can people use the emergency room for their primary care at tax payers expense, no longer will children go without preventative care cause their parents don't get insurance through their workplace. And yes we all must participate but don't we profess to be "one nation, under god, indivisible"

Ted Cruise and the rest of them need to suck it up, quit whining, and start doing their job, pass a budget, to keep America the greatest nation in the world like we all know it is. And we as voters need to make sure he and all the rest of them do and if they don't, well they can go get that job waiting for them with their Wall Street donors after the next election

I find it funny how people are criticized for having political opinions that are loosely based on knowledge of politics or just their personal opinion. Knowing politics is not necessary understanding the "process" but having common sense. Current and past voters allegedly have gotten us in this current state of affairs. Am I to believe that the uneducated voters are to blame or the educated voters that collectively make bad decisions? As countrymen we are asked to vote for the person you dislike the best. Politian's personal interests have overshadowed mass public interests. As with most of you, I have to work a full time job and do whatever it takes to provide for my family. Regardless of what happens today or 20 years down the road, I will not fail myself. I would not turn a blind eye to Democracy but do not forget that we as individuals control our own destinies. I think the shut down is a great thing because we are going to see who is really worthless. 50% or more of our government is nothing but a waste of $$$ IMO. Most of these people are over educated people filing and pushing papers and trying to figure out the best way of doing absolutely nothing. I mean no disrespect to anyone who has family or currently is employed by the government (yours truly in reality) but I've seen the way some of our government works with all the red tape and policies and it is absolutely asinine! For example just humor me and read this...

I worked with a landscape company on a project in Patricks Air Force base in Florida. There is about 100 acres of what used to be housing and is now just empty fields of crap grass. This portion of land was privatized and managed by a subcontracted property management company. Before the government would take this land back they wanted it in "tip top" shape. The property management company hired us to put irrigation in (total ghetto rigged PVC piping on top of ground with 4 foot sections and sprinkler heads on top. We seeded this area with more crap grass (approx a $10,000 expense) and fertilized it (another $5000-$10000 approx). Then they watered this area every day for 3-5 months mind you to get the weeds to grow. This watering expense alone was approx $30,000 per month.

The government after several walk through a of about 10 people decided it met their standards and assumed the land back. We pulled the irrigation, place went brown, and looked like dog$$$doo in about 30 days.

Sorry to be so cynical but this is only one VERY small example of how the government runs and the waste involved.!!! Just something to think about...

Sorry its basic budgeting concepts. You don't spend more than you bring in. If I remember correctly the IRS revenue is roughly 3 trillion for 2012, so thats the budget ceiling 2.5 trillion a year without raising taxes.

This is not true...to understand the basic US economy you have to first understand where money originates from.
Some people think "Hey, we need more money so just print it." It doesn't work like that...it's even worse. Our government basically takes out a loan on money that never existed from the Fed. IRS tax dollars are not spent paying our basic bills like most people think just because it seems logical. The money is spent paying back previous loans on money (that never existed to start with) that was loaned out by the Fed with interest.

Interest in and of itself insures that all debts will never be repaid. Think about it. If the only money that ever existed in the world was $900 trillion dollars and it even just $1 million was loaned out with even just .0000001% interest, that guarantees that all debts will never fully be repaid unless more money pops up out of thin air....which is essentially what happens when the Fed loans our government more money with more interest...to pay back previous debts while yet incurring even more debt on the new interest and so on ad infinitum and nausea..

Even worse than that is the fact that only 10% of a loan is actually backed and guaranteed to exist to start with but I wont open that can of worms...do your own investigation and research on that ugly fact.

The problems go far deeper than a few hundred members of congress not being able to agree on something...the real question is when will this mountain of ever growing debt finally peak and crumble causing world chaos and lunacy?!? This is why many bright people in the past fought and fought not to nationalize banking...they lost the battle and in turn we lost the battle and don't even know it. The sad thing is that the troubles we have seen in the past few years and are seeing now are only the tip of the iceburg with respect to the potential or impending crumbling of the world economy...

The latest news are that the final bill they submitted last night included language that took away subsidies for congressional staff's healthcare and essentially put them in the Obamacare exchanges for HC. Boehner's reasoning that the lawmakers should have to use it if the public does. But in the background he was working on them being exempted from being in Obamacare. Just a bunch of bull either way.

They want to repeal Obamacare while Obama is in office. Did it ever occur to them that if it got past the Senate (it won't) that the guy who the law is named after would veto that with a Coke and a smile?

I would also like to add that I am grateful for portions of the Affordable Care Act that have already gone into effect.
For a period of time between my graduation and current employment, I utilized the ACA. Allowing people up to the age of 26 to stay on their parents health insurance helped keep a tough time for myself from becoming a disastrous time during my job search (I even encountered a health problem during this time where health insurance was necessary).

Holding the country hostage to try and delay the implementation of the ACA is not a wise path to take. This is the law of the land, as signed by the President and upheld by the Supreme Court on a 5-4 vote (the fifth vote being a conservative Justice).
Time for congress to get past this disastrous "game of chess" and start working for the people who put them in office.
Also, as long as government is shut down, congressional paychecks should be given up.

What i dont get is, you have to have car insurance if you drive, whether you think you're a great driver or not(i.e. young and healthy people not needing insurance) so why not have health insurance? it keeps people from using the emergency room for routine nonsense and jacking up rates, but that's not the only reason we need health care reform. You all do realize we pay more in taxes TOWARDS health care than countries that have socialized health care right? This guy explains it really well. The problem is we dont negotiate with terrorists, and one sect of the republican party is basically the american taliban, holding our country hostage unless the get everything they demand. No bipartisanship. The tea party is the problem. The same people that believe, regardless of the scientific data, that burning fossil fuels has no impact on Co2 emissions and most of them believe the earth is 6,000 years old. These are the people we put in charge.
