I am working to finish my stand and had hoped to fit a 5 gallon for top off next to my 40. Needless to say I cannot fit it next to it. I can set it up above the 40g. I will be reading a bunch of post about gravity ATO but thought I would get some ideas from anyone who has ideas

My thought drill the 5g on the bottom and side of 40g and run a flexible pvc run by float switch that will fill when water is lower in return chamber. Pic attached how I would build stand for the 5 g and where it will sit

NVM I won't be cheap. So I will just set the 5g here paint the outside black with a strip for visual water level and get an actual ATO. What another 100-200$ right lol.
