Green Mandarin not doing well now....

Well I just posted the other day about my male anthia not doing well. And now my green mandarin (totally separate tanks).

Not eating I don’t think. I’ve had him for like 6 months. Got smooshed under a rock, but appears to be really skinny....anything I can do? More explanation in the videos!

Was he eating frozen at all or just the pods in your tank ? How long has the tank been established? Sorry if all this is in the videos but im someplace I can’t watch them atm . At 6 months you are at about the norm of them fading away for most aquarist due to eating habits.

He appeared to be eating frozen and fish eggs as well as constantly picking at pods.
I also seeded pods several times!

I don’t see him picking much any more. The tank was originally set up as a QT tank, so wasn’t established. I was going to keep him there for a while, as he was less than the size of my fingernail when I got him. I was afraid in the main tank he would become a $90 snack or lose him.
Any hopes to get him eating if we go ahead and put him in the main tank, or once he has stopped eating is it over?

I'd move her to the DT asap. I put a pair of the Biotas in my 300 and had same fears but luckily everything ignored them.

^^ Agree; if he won't eat pods on a consistent basis then he's done for. Baby brine shrimp is another option to try.

One mis conception on these fish is once they eat frozen they keep eating frozen and in some cases they do. but I’ve read a lot more cases that they can and will stop eating frozen for no reason. I’m with everyone else move this fish into your display ASAP. They are smart little guys and believe me if they don’t want to become a meal they won’t these guys are fast and small they can escape a large fish pretty easy. Hopefully your display is very well established and is full of pods and it will make a comeback. Wouldn’t hurt to dump a few things of pods in there to help.

I’ve got a scooter blenny thriving, so I’m sure I’ve got a good established tank. No clue how many pods, but I seed the sump. I’ll buy a couple more bottles and seed again tomorrow.

Ugh! I fed seaweed to keep everyone distracted as I put her in. But my trigger tried to take a bite (luckily left her alone after one nibble) and even my cardinal tried to take a bite!!! She is so tiny! I don’t know what I just did to her.
Pumps turned Dow’s so she can hide without being blown all over. I’ll turn them all the way off for a bit.

What’s your fish list for the display? When introducing it to your display I wasn’t under the impression that it had triggers. I saw the 90 dollar meal but being so small I kinda thought you were just worried on top of worries about it not eating.

Just one trigger. Niger. She’s a model citizen and fairly small still. The weird thing is that my cardinal even tried to take a bite of her! I have a wheelers shrimp goby and the scooter. The niger doesn’t bother any of them....so far....

Do I need to move her back? Eating is my main concern since she is starving. But doesn’t matter if she herself becomes food. She found a corner to hide in, and no one bothered her after the first float through. I’m afraid with my pumps at full blast she won’t be able to hide. She was floating everywhere. They are on low for tonight.

Got a picture of your display? And if no one is bothering it since the first few mins you should be ok.

Everything should be fine with the fish you have. Even your Niger Trigger should be fine it’s your Mandarin. Nigers are reef safe, however, their is ALWAYS a chance of fish breaking this rule of thumb because of their individual personality, size and temperament.
It’s best to add your Mandarin a few hours after the lights have been off in your tank. The fish won’t be interested and curious at that time.

No one seemed interested after about 10 mins. She’s just so tiny I can see why they think she’s food! I put her in just a few minutes before lights out.

Recently lost my Spotted Dragonet to starvation. Added to my 3 year old tank last year around this time and besides the pods he also ate Brine shrimp and even live Black worms. Figured he was getting plenty to eat and never really gave it much thought. Last month while doing some maintenance in the tank I noticed he was much skinnier than just a month before. Watched him for a while and noticed he wasn't picking off pods every couple of seconds like when first put in the tank. I placed an order and added some pods to the tank but he soon passed after a few days. I thought my tank with a fuge full of chaeto, rock rubble and no competitors for pods would be sufficient for it's needs, I was sorely mistaken and it slowly starved to death.

I’m sorry for your loss!! @reef lover - she’s alive. So that’s something. She stayed in her same spot al night. I had my pumps only running at 20% last night. I didn’t want to leave them like that all day, so turned them up to 40%. I thinks she’s weak - and oh so tiny - so it was blowing her around a bit. She finally let go and swam into a rock structure which will be better for her. So I’m hoping to see her pop out at some point today!
