one particular store has their colony and all the frags were white on one side ( the underside of the branch )

Ok.. no light = no growth.

Even my slimer has a bit of white on one side usually not facing heavy flow. I find myself occasionally rotating it .

Mine is the same way, as is most sticks in my tank. Underside of a branch is mostly white.

No light, or shaded = no color
