Hi guys,

Fairly new to reefing so still learning.

I've been waiting to post this as I wanted to start testing my phosphates before I started asking.

My tank has been up and running since the 2nd of January of this year (just over 2 months) and I seem to have what I think is alot of algae on my rocks. It's mostly green but it does have brown spots here and there.

I do keep getting diatoms in my sand but that seems to be fluctuating and I know my tank is still new so I'm not too worried about it.

My nitrate are quite high and I can't seem to keep them down, I dont believe I'm over feeding but I may be wrong. I currently have a skimmer and am doing 20% wc weekly.

My parameters are as follows:

ph 7.8-8
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 50
Phos 0.052ppm
Alk 9.3
Salinity 1.024-25
Temp 26*C

As for CuC, I currently have:

4 turbo
4 nassarius
2 halloween hermits

I use an 16hd for lights and this is my schedule

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

It looks pretty normal to me. Until something covers those rocks, coral or corailine alage the green will grow. How much and what do you feed your tank? I dont see any fish.

I have a yasha goby, he usually hides with his pistol shrimp in the back right. I feed him half a block of frozen misis every other day. And I also add the smallest pinch of pellets for the hermits twice a week

Maybe the water you are using for your tank has high nitrates
