Hello,

My name is Dan and I’m based in Berlin, Germany.

I am passionat about aquariums since 2010, mainly with fresh water or also called aquascaping. I always had an attraction for saltwater tanks but the complicated system behind it scared me (compared to a fresh water TOP system).

After watching hours and hours of youtube videos, I’ve started to make my first shy steps in reefing, but first I want to show you some of my freshwater works, I hope you’ll enjoy.

It was really hard to decide what aquarium should I choose for my first reef, because as you can clearly see from all my freshwater aquariums I preffer having a clear background and a clear silicone instead of black, for a better depth. I know that dark bakground gives you more contrast, but still, it’s just a personal taste. Having this in mind and also the fact that I wouldn’t go for diy on my first reef experience like drilling holes in the aquarium and building a sump, I decided to go for a RedSea Reefer 350 with a V3 sump, that I really like so far.

For the equipment list, please find enclosed text file.

The system has been started on 1st of Feb 2020, now it’s cycling without lights. I have used Life rock and a mixed sand of live and dry. I have 4 damsels (one was brutally killed by the Nero5) since 1 week now to help with cycling.

Next week I’ll add the second Wave pump and a Clarisea 3000. I would add the skimmer later, because it’s no point of adding it now since the system is on cycling mode.

Looking forward to seeing your aquariums.

Thank you and sorry for my spelling/writing mistakes.

Welcome to R2R and your new reefing family and welcome to the salty side. Judging by the pictures of your fresh water systems, and the research you've done already, I think you'll be just fine!
