Welcome to the Reef.

I would start a build thread so we can all fallow along. It’s a great way to keep everything together, and is basically a journal for your tank.

My biggest piece of advise is slow and steady wins the race.
Thanks for the warm water welcome!

I will definitely make us a Build Thread over the next few weeks probably, once we have a few more ducks in a row on the pond here.

And yes indeed! A pearl does not simply grow in one night! Same could be said for basically anything one chooses to put into their tanks!

Out approach will be slow and steady for multiple reasons. One we dont want to overwhelm ourselves on our end and secondly so as to let us learn and grow at a decent pace so we can provide a healthy ecosystem for our new Tank families.

Again than you fpr the warm welcome and advice! I look forward to many more chats with all of you!!

Welcome! I’m super interested in your project, sounds fabulous. I’ve slowly been getting into breeding marine ornamentals and would love to work in sustainable aquaculture.
I am so happy to see so many already interested in our project! I'll get to making us a Build Thread soon so everyone can follow us along and keep up with our story!

Tell me Squatchaquarist how is the breeding going for you? What's some of your biggest set backs and successes so far?

I haven’t started a thread yet specifically on my breeding ventures, but was planning on it soon. I am beginning to work with green mandarin dragonets but eventually I want to try my hand at pink streaked wrasse, as well as a few fairy wrasse species.

The biggest hurdle so far is available space!

For over a month now I’ve been growing phyto, pods, white worms, brine, and rotifers, and fine tuning my process (although the fine tuning will never stop ;) ). I haven’t even begun trying to raise larvae yet, which is indeed the hard part. I breed freshwater fish professionally at a university, but pelagic saltwater spawners are quite different.

It’s a shame that the Marine Breeders forum is largely uninhabited these days, but there is a reasonably active Breeding section here. Message me any time, would love to bounce ideas around.:)

Sounds amazing! We plan on doing plenty of breeding on our end so we definitely will have to stay in touch as the journey unfolds!

As far as Available space we hear that one hundred percent! We have two small apartments between us and I have a small family that's growing quick! I'm going to have rent out an extra space just to keep my woman from eating my head off!

But everything is one step at a time and currently we are focusing on a good build list to get us started.

Please keep us posted about your adventure Squatch! I'd love to hear out if unfolds and what comes next for you!

Likewise! We all need to work together on this sort of stuff. I don’t care for the secrecy that surrounds marine fish breeding (i.e. companies and individuals wanting to be “the ones” who figure out a specific species and thus form a monopoly on the market for that fish, or perhaps wanting infamy for being “the first.”) Forget ego and money. The more pressure we can take off wild populations, the better! I would love to see more hobbyists breeding saltwater fish and inverts just like the freshwater side of the pond.

I couldn't agree more. I feel the need for transparency and teamwork is a must here. We are talking about life forms not just rocks in a tub. You can never know to much or have to much help in this. One of the many reasons we plan on being open about every aspect of our journey.

Hey all, my name is Isaac and I am from the PNW out in Spokane in Eastern Washington. A few of my friends and I have decided to start on an adventure together one which we someday wish will have an impact on our oceans. We decided we want to turn our tanks into a few Reef tanks to grow coral and breed some critters.

My personal goals are to learn what I can so I can help any others down the line who wish to follow any and all of us here and someday give my knowledge and growth back to our beloved oceans.

Over the next few months we plan on gathering our assets up so we can start our first three tanks. We would love to document what we can and share our experiences with all of you and hopefully along the way learn and grow together.

Currently none of us have ever ran a Saltwater tank so we are all a bit nervous on our end but we will post all our successes and all our failures to the world to see as they come at us!

In the meantime anyone who has read to this point I appreciate your already apparent curiosity in us and I would love to hear from you guys here about your current tanks and any pearls of Tank Wisdom that your willing to throw my way!

Thanks All!

May Njordr bless all of your tanks!

Until next time!

-Isaac
