I'm new here. Hi.

My name is David, and I work at an lfs in Plano, TX. I have adored all things reef since I was about 5, and would endlessly watch a vhs we had on the Great Barrier Reef. I'm currently (sadly) between reef tanks, but should be setting a new one up soon. Employee discounts ftw.

I am by no means an expert on anything. I'm still on the beginning end of the learning curve. That being said, I'm planning on grad school in Marine bio in a couple years, once my wife finishes her degree here. Central Texas, while remarkably good for the hobby, is not particularly good for studying the ocean, not having one particularly handy.

Not looking for anything in particular from this forum, but I figured I might as well take a look. Collective knowledge is a pretty awesome thing.

In closing, an ode, to the inspiration for my SN (Yes I know they are not reef safe)

An Ode to the Toadfish

The adage goes

“There are many fish in the sea”

The aquarist knows

That some are not worth it to see.

It’s often guessed

Of all the fish that none would wish,

Topping that list

Is the bottom dwelling toad fish

Lumpy faced

With pointy spines along its back

Venom laced

A fish few people feel they lack

Living within

Rocks and rubble lining the shore

A can of tin

Makes a home; they wish not for more

The toadfish knows

There isn’t much it really needs

In quiet repose

It’s toothy death within the weeds

Colorful wrasse

Anthias or angelfish queens

Many will pass

The toadfish in favor of these

But as for me

I’ve found a place in my heart

It has the key

In my tanks he can have a part

It’s found its place

And in it it’s happy to be

A toothy face

Endearing the toadfish to me
