First post on reef2reef, here's my 1000 gallon shark pond with a male and female smoothound a 27 inch female banded bamboo and soon to be 2 more banded. How big you guys think the Grey's will max out at? Have no problem going bigger pond wise. Alot of info on the internet saying they mostly top out at 3 feet up to 5.5 feet.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Fishbase lists the max size of a female at 48". I've found that generally, the maximum size in captivity of fish listed on Fishbase is about 80 to 85% of their max size listed on that site. That would be around 41". I've kept this species for long term though, and never had a female reach 36".

The big issue with this species is that they tend to "spy hop" - they run up the sides of tanks, poke their noses out of the water, and sometimes jump out. We had one that did this so often that we nicknamed her "Flipper". It eventually perished when it jumped out past the vertical mesh barrier we had installed.

My male tends to do that alot. Fortunately when I was planning the build I always had these guys in mind and have read about them jumping out eventually, so I built the pond a foot taller than I would actually fill it up so I have a foot gap plus it'll be covered in mesh net as well. How long did it take for them to reach adulthood? I feed mine about every other day from squid shrimp and silversides and use mazuri shark supplement. Ever get them to breed?

No - I've never had reproduction as we only had one at a time on display (public aquarium). The Mazuri shark supplement is vital to reduce the issue of goiter.
