Hi!
I have always wondered about the growth rates observed in the following tangs:

There isn't really a consensus and really it seems it differs and I am calling out all our tang people and see the similarities between owners and their stock!

Yellow eye kole - C.strigosus

Square tail bristletooth - C.truncatus

*No pics* May be the two spot?

Blue eyed kole - C.strigosus

I think there is a couple more I didn't mention but this is a general idea of what I am trying to get at.

Please share your observations and what you have noticed as your tang has aged!

I kept a yellow eye kole for about 2 months. I say she grew a little in that time. Had to re home her cause she was MEAN and harassed all my fish and upset the peace in the tank all the time.

Currently have a baby yellow (growing fast) a purple tang and a powder blue. Powder blue for sure has gotten bigger

I have had a white tail for about 2 months now and I got him when he was pretty small, hasn’t grown much since but a little bit. Very beautiful and peaceful for the most part!

I had a blue hippo tang that I grew out in a 40B from ~2” to ~4”. That took about a year. Maybe a little less, like 10 months? It depends on soooo many things that there’s no hard and fast tang growth rate rule. There’s feeding, temperature, genetics, tank mates, and many other factors that play a role.

I’d say I was pushing it, but the blue hippo did still seem happy for that whole time. Whether I’m just making assumptions, or not, is a whole other conversation, but that was my experience.

My Desjardini Sailfin Tang was small, about my thumb size when I purchased it a couple of years ago. Now it is almost the size of my open hand, length wise, about 7.5 inches.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
