My sea star got ahold of my GSP (again) but this time the mat doesn’t look so good some polyps won’t come out and there are holes in the mat. Is part of the coral dead? Will it heal or grow back? Should I remove the dead part of the coral?

I am ashamed to say this but im having a hard growing gsp.. I got a tiny frag about 3 and a half months ago, it has only grown a few centimetres since. I have no clue why it is so dang slow in my tank while in other tanks it's a pest like coral.
