Gulf Live rock or Salty Bottom?

Unless you can get your live rock overnight and completely submirged in water, it's a crap shoot and probably a waste of life on the rock, and money.

Haven't tried those but KP shipped in water is very good. Shipping was expensive but worth it. 125 ponds cycled in 5 days with 3 large water changes.

I find they have huge egos. As long as things go well they're fine. It's when stuff doesn't go well is what makes a company a good company. They didn't show that with me. Never again.

I was happy with glr but I'm in Atlanta, normal shipping was pretty much overnight but wet papertowels instead of water. Yeah a good little ammonia spike but that's no different than fresh boat rock back in the day. I had tons of corals, gorgonia, a few red emeralds all survive. I've seen enough bad reports of people further away or instances where shipped in water was paid for but not carried out happen that'd I'd be a little wary. I was happy with mine though. I'd also recommend getting some sand, mine had a lot of life in it.

When you say a tiny ammonia spike how bad for how long? I'm in miami so shipping should be fast.

Well to be fair I said "good little" which was a bit facetious. Took about a week-week and a half or so. I didn't bother rinsing or precleaning, just tossed it in the tank and cruised.
Pictures are the day after the rock went in.

Folks if you want live then this is the best option. Gone are the days of Fiji live rock. Stuff from Fiji was sent via boat back in the day, so weeks in newspaper, not sure why folks want direct from ocean/never touched by air virgin rock....

For me I really like how that primo florida live rock looks. I'm just trying to figure out if I can maintain that much life or just end up with stinky soup.

My current tank has live rock from my LFS. Not as much life as these aquacultured rocks but sponges, clams and a bit of coralline. Might just stick with that...no cycle at all.

These were mine right after unboxing them. I didnt rise anything either, just tossed em in the tank. But I didnt add fish till about a month after, I had my fish in a 20 gallon till I was finished setting up the 40.

I did a 10 gallon and just ran the skimmer. All was good.

I'm not familiar with salty bottom but I've ordered from both gulf and KP recently, very happy with both. I agree with Tim that minimizing shipping time is more important than supplier.
