I got a couple Haddoni nems that I’ll put in my 470g reef. I’ve got two different areas to place each one and they’re both sandy areas. My flow is significant and if I let the nem free the current will take it directly to the powerheads. I’m looking for some pointers on getting them to settle where I want them. I’m think I’ll need to turn my powerheads off for a few hours? More?

Also, would it help to block them in with some liverock?

i dont have a ton of experience with nems, but the experience I have makes me always say: Nems are the cats of reefing. They just do what they want.

I'd definitely turn the flow down while they try and find their place, but I wouldn't hold my breath that they will find the place you want them to find.

If you make an deep indentation in the sandbed that helps. Mine attached to the glass bottom in a 2 inch sandbed. Turning off some flow might facilitate that.

Turn flow off for a couple of hours, indent the sand, and invest in some power head covers.

I've had long tentacle nems happy in the open attached to the bottom glass but in my limited experience with haddoni (2) they prefer to be against a rock. This is my current one. My previse green one was against rocks also. I think they like to get their foot between the rock and glass.

As previously mentioned, dig a small hole in the sand and they'll dig down and attach to the bottom of the tank. In terms of flow, they're actually okay in relatively high flow, provided that the flow doesn't lift up the disk. Flow pushing down on it is typically fine.

The also do best when given room to completely spread out. Unlike other anemones that have tight folds, haddoni usually do not, many times just with slight folds creating a ripple appearance.

It’s settling in a bit. My Nero 7’s are at 25% so it stays put. Looks like the foot is burying in the sand/glass interface. There’s a buried rock down there too.
