Any idea what this black tentacle thing on the back of my halloween hermit, is it appears to be eating algae, but coming out from the back end of the shell.

does it look like there could be a snail or other critter living attached to the hermit's shell, or is it definitely coming from inside the shell? any pics from other angles? almost looks to me like we can see an eyestalk and a mouth from a snail back there...

It is definitely coming from inside you can watch it suck up back in

if you can get a different angle of it we can confirm but to me it looks like a limpet whose shell is blending in, you can see what appears to be the edge of it's shell in your video - the extra "bump" below the swirl would not normally be there

my halloween hermit crab came with a shell that has a slipper limpet on it and it looks very similar

this thread has photos of something very similar -- my guess is that it's the same type of snail as here, has that same long dark proboscis reaching off. looking closer at the video, too, we can see where the crab shell ends and the snail's begins, outlined it in this pic.

really cool find IMHO!! fascinating little dude...

Thank you

This is a hoof snail. Lives on their host and picks up things stirred up by them. Or their waste. But not a parasite.

It could have been with the conch and have its shell picked up after death, or more likely just took a ride on the shell after the hermit took it.
