I recently had to change the water and add algone to my 6 gallon saltwater aquarium because I noticed another coral was bleaching and the hammers were starting to curl in on themselves. After checking the levels via test strip I noticed nitrate and nitrite were high. I was wondering if they can recover and or if there’s anything else I can do to help them? I recently feed them reef roids today to ensure they have the maximum strength before nitrate and nitrite levels go back to normal. The tank is very new and about a month old. I added these corals roughly a week ago and checked water levels prior to adding to ensure safety of corals.

First, I'm sorry your corals aren't doing well.

Second, that is a test for swimming pool water, not saltwater aquariums (I have these exact ones to periodically test my RO water for chlorine prior to the membrane).

Please invest in quality test kits (not strips) made for saltwater aquariums.

Third, your tank is VERY young and some corals - including hammers - are far from ideal for tanks that are not yet stable.

Fourth, I'm not sure what algone does, nor why you would add a chemical for a coral that's bleaching. Please go here and read some of the sticky threads at the top, they will give you some good information. https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/new-to-saltwater-reef-aquariums-post-here.130/

Good luck.
