Need some more information on your tank

How long have you had the hammer
Flow and lighting
Parameters
How old is your tank
Anything that could be bothering it?

Hammer has been in there for about a month with no changes .

35 ppt
9 alk
480 calcium
5 ppm nitrate
.25 ppm phosphate

I did just recently get some peppermint shrimp and have seen they may pick at these guys. Could that be the case?
