so I got my first hammer a few weeks ago and i was looking at it and saw what i believe are new heads. do branching hammers split heads or grow new ones? i got a quick picture before work.

I believe they can do both. Heads split and new heads will start out of the side of the skeleton stalk. I hate to admit I'm not 100% sure about that, but I think it's right. ;)

yeah! thats what made me think maybe it wasn't new heads. i was not expecting that many.
Yes both happens all the time, sometimes if you loose a head these will be left on the stalk. Keep it and with some patience\time will grow out again.
