Phosphate Test Kits.
So I have been having some issues with my Hanna Phosphate (ulr) checker (I think) so I will run the test and get a result say .34 for example, I will run the same test 3 to 4 more times with the same water samples and I am getting different results each time. for example one night I tested and results were:
  1. .34
  2. .50
  3. .22
  4. .20

So I decided to order a RedSea Phosphate Test kit. tonight when I tested the phosphate from the Hanna was .34 and the RedSea tested between .08 and .10.

I dont expect the same results, but they should be close, further more when I test with the hanna with the same water the results should be the same.
Anybody else having this issue?

In the past I have taken water to the LFS but they use one of those all in one checkers and the results are so far off in every category I found it not to be reliable.

Just a couple of things to note

Check the reagent for expiration.
Make sure the vials are free of finger prints
I make sure the 10ml marking face the same way every time.
I make sure I empty the entire reagent into the vial
I store and clean the vials with rodi.

That said mine is super solid and consistent every time.

Maybe try new box of reagents

Have you tested your Hanna with the calibration solution?

I do all of those things, including storing them in RODI which I know most folks dont do. the vials are cleaned with a cloth each time they are placed into the checker only handling the black lid. and I do my best to get all of the reagent into the vial (that being said, I am testing with the same samples and getting different readings. I would understand if I was running a new test with new reagent there could be an issue)

I have not, the checker is brand new as of June.
Ok, it could still be off new from the factory and it does have allowable tolerance +/- but also are you shaking for 2 min and holding when flashing c2 untill the timer comes on for 3 minutes? And are you using every spec of reagent for your test? If all that's a yes and the calibration checks out I don't see why the Hanna would be so far off.

Think I may need to follow up with Hanna on this issue.
