So long story short I was excited to get the phosphate tester from hanna because I have trouble reading my salifert test. I went to my LFS to buy one, and grabbed one off the shelf not actually paying complete attention. It was in the spot on the shelf for ULR, but when I got home and opened it, I realized it was a LR. Store wouldn't let me return it since I opened it.

So question is should I bite the bullet and spend the money on the ULR, or will the LR be okay? I have a reef tank with some zoas, mushroom and a gsp.

Unless you are running an ULNS and are obsessed with keeping NP ratios, I wouldn't stress one bit.
The accuracy of the LR is .04ppm vs .02ppm. And the ULR only goes up to .90.

Have you used it yet? And if so what are your observed results?

I have used it, it is saying my phosphates are at 0, doing a salifert test, there is a very pale blue color, but it's very hard for me to actually compare it properly.

make sure you are performing the test correctly on the hanna (ie mixing the cuvette correctly and waiting for the full time to elapse for mixing and waiting for color change) and also ensure you perform multiple tests over the course of a few days.
Do you have any algae in your system? This could skew the reading and show a lower or zero result.

I have performed multiple tests over a couple days, I had algae but I removed a good portion of it and tested again a few days later (yesterday) which still is showing zero.

I personally would get the ULR version of the Hanna since this something you could be using every week for years to come. The Hanna checkers are on sale on BRS right now.

When performing the test make sure to hold down the button after putting in the C2 sample so that it sets off the timer before taking a reading.

To save time and improve accuracy you should look into getting adjustable volume lab micropipette from Amazon as well as the AutoAuqa SmartStir.

I've been eyeing up the smart stir for a while now, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I use Hanna checked to test all, nitrate and phosphate every week. The nitrate and phosphate each require 2 minutes of stirring. The easier you can make testing the more likely you are to do it. The micropippete plus AutoAqua save time and effort. For the AutoAqua pick up the cuvette holder:
