Hi everyone. I kicked around nanoreef for a bit but fell off the planet for Reasons. I missed keeping a log of my fish life and float around R2R often enough, so here I officially am. I'm a late-stage grad student who also works part-time at my LFS. I've been fascinated with aquatic life since my earliest memories, and have kept freshwater aquariums for many years. My current FW setup is a planted 75g South American-inspired biotope with nano fish.
I've been doing marine for just under a year now. My build thread is pivoted toward a 20g long I set up for an urchin hitchhiker, but my "DT" is a 50g with a focus on macroalgae, gorgs, and whatever leathers/softies I can get away with (I live at home, and my mom insisted on a toby puffer, so I have to carefully arrange inhabitants around her). The planted freshwater energies are potent in me and I use daylight spectrum lights on both salty tanks, and tend to gravitate toward collecting algae. Leathers and softies are my favorites, but I do also admire hammers and some other LPS. I would love to cultivate macros for people in my area, but am still clumsily learning just what I can grow in my systems...
I'm becoming less enthusiastic about academia as times goes on, and I think I could be quite content managing displays for any of the big public aquariums, but my degrees aren't in biology. Maybe I can still find a way in. ;)
Thanks for reading, and for all of the endless amounts of knowledge and advice and general good vibes that are accumulated here.
