Cheap Amazon t5 fixture for growing plants, 6 ATI BULBS 300.00, money saved priceless

Best = Most reliable. Stability is key, not exact values. Your corals will adjust, as long as there aren’t swings due to equipment not doing its job. A lot of times more $$$ means more reliable, but not always.

"Best" is a subjective term at best. What one person deems is best for their tank may not work on anothers. I think most people that have been doing this hobby a while understand that there is a benefit to having high quality equipment for certain aspects of a tank build but others you can get away with being very budget minded. On my old 30 gallon reef when i first set it up i was getting an 8 degree temp swing with an 8 to 10 hr light cycle. I had numerous LFS tell me you need a chiller...thats 500 to 800 bucks... i solved the issue with 30 dollars in trim, 5 dollars in stain for a canopy to raise the fixture and a first generation tunze aquawind fan to do evaporative cooling. Whole thing cost me a 100 bucks. And temps only fluctuated 1/2 degree during a light cycle.

Having the best equipment is best to have a great tank.

Or

Having reliable equipment is best to have a great tank.

Or, having the equipment you can afford is best to have a great tank.
Or, having redundant equipment is best to have a great tank

Or, having good animal husbandry skills is best to have a great tank

Or, having the best equipment is best to have a great tank, until a disease outbreak strikes.

People run amazing tanks without the best equipment, and define best? I feel like saying something is the “best equipment” is subjective no? One person could say this light brand is the best while another person disagrees and says it’s the worst.
