I have one that has been in my tank for a while (8 months or so). I also know the stigma these fish have, but have found it also likes to eat masstick along with plankton, mysis and nori. It has a few fish to clean which I see it doing quite often, it's fun to watch them clean the other fish gills out.

I agree but seeing as it was at my LFS I don't think it's getting back to its Hawaiian reef so I'm looking for tips to give it a great home considering there's not much out there.
I have had one in a 220 gallon reef for a little over a year now and he eats everything from pods numar ova brine and mysis shrimp and sa hatchery diet the small ones. He was eating when I got him as well and I soak all the frozen foods in Boyd's vitamins and garlic. Hope you have the luck I have he is still fat and happy

So fish to groom on is essential. I have 3 tangs that it's been looking over but hasn't picked at them much. It's 2 for 2 on feedings so I'm guessing it'll take blackworms for supplemental feeding. From my research getting them to eat frozen has been the key to long term success similar to some other picky species
try white worms also, i also feed my black worms feed with silcon but they won't live on just selcon

Mine eats everything, along with cleaning all the other fish. I’ve had him around 3 years and he’s got big and fat. It’s certainly far more possible for them to do well than many would have you believe based on my experience and many of the similar posts in this thread.

Yeah I think my worry has subsided, been eating mysis and nori off the clip all week
