Heater recommendations

After the whole marineland stealth pro heater recall, I had to find a quick replacement. I went with the aquen version of the stealth. Tonight I did my usual feeding of the coral and got a good ol zap. I systematically went through all of my equipment plugging and unplugging checking for a zap or no zap. Turned out to be my heater. I need a good, long lasting, and reliable heater. I will be ordering a new heater tommorrow night. Cost is not an issue.

I swapped my marineland for a jager 150w. But honestly every brand has its issues. The jagers i read had the best reviews but of course a few people had some bad ones too.

That is the issue with picking out heaters. All heaters malfunction eventually. Picking the brand with the most reliable is a PITA. I have read that the jagers have shotty thermostats now that eheim is running it, which is surprising. However, a controller will take care of that.

My main issue with the jager is how long they are and where I need to put it. I dont have enough space for the wattage jager I need. I have been looking in to the fluval E series though. They seem promising.

That is what zapped me earlier tonight and needs replacing. I threw in a spare heater to hold over until I can get a new one in.

That's funny...unbelieveable how unreliable all heaters are...i dont think i have heard of one without issues. Good luck with which ever one you choose.

I find it more dissappointing than funny. It is sad how so many companies come out with heaters that just work, not ones that last. The old stealths lasted a long time for me. When one stopped working marineland sent me the new stealths. I had issues from the getgo with them. I would rather pay $150 for a single reliable and sturdy heater than $40 multiple times for a run-o-the-mill poorly designed heater.

I have an old Ebu Jager, it is at least 15 years old and still kickin! I actually have a spare one too!

You cant find those anywhere now. Maybe i should go to a flee market and try to find one. Care to sell the spare? :)

+1 on jager. its the only heater i haven't had issues with.

So far the consensus is jager. Maybe I will just buy two smaller ones and put then across from each other parallel to the flow through the sump. I guess I'll also buy a RKL to make sure there are no issues.

I have six 200w Jager on two different systems. I carry one spare but have never had it out of the box.
I have had problems with Stealth and Finnex titanium, but Jager has never let me down.

ARe the Jager heaters fuller submersible? I just want to double check before I order one. Where I need to place the heater, it will be completely submersed.

Glad to hear most people are liking their jager heaters!! Makes me feel a little better about my decision.

Thanks for the info. I assumed they were submersible, but I'd rather check just to make sure. Thanks for the info and the link. I will be ordering two from them tonight and the MD RKL w/ ph probe

I switched from stealth to jager after hearing the problems with stealth, its worked fine so far.

I am currently using a Jager and have used several eith no issues. That said, I have never had issues with any of my Stealth heaters used on previous clients' systems... but most were the old models. Now Koralias are a whole 'nother story.
