Helfrichi and regular fire fish?

I've kept 3 regular firefish together before just fine but I also added a purple and that didn't go over too well.

Any opinions on adding 1 helfrichi and 1 regular in a 180 at the same time?

dont see why not, but why not just add the helfrichi and forgo the regular one ?

I would prefer to have 3 fire fish but would settle for 2 in order to keep aggression down between the 2 species

Unless they are a bonded pair, their going to fight. The more you add the bigger the fight!;) I have a bonded pair of Helfriches and their very cool. Make sure you have a good cover on your tank, they do like to jump..
