Hello, I am located in the PNW between portland and Seattle. I am starting my first reef tank. I have a wife and three daughters under 10. I am a Navy veteran and work in the data center industry. I have kept freshwater tanks including planted tanks. I think reef keeping is the next progression for me.

The tank is about a month old and still finishing the cycle. It is a 26gal bowfront with a HOB filter and anAI prime. I want to start with some fish, inverts, and soft corals. Once I feel comfortable keeping things stable, I will move into some LPS. I definitely enjoy the movement of the corals but can appreciate the beauty of SPS corals. I will start a build thread soon to record my journey. Currently I have a peppermint shrimp, assorted hermit crabs, nassarius, cerith, and astrea snails.

My overall plan for the tank is to just get some experience. I plan on taking things nice and slow but expect to do things earlier than I should lol. I have already done this and added the CUC too early. A handful of snails paid the price. Been doing frequent water changes to prevent any more loss. Having an ecosystem is important to me and lean toward natural solutions and prevention. I am not against chemicals when nessecary but there is an elegance in nature i want to emphasize. Symbiosis is also high on the list.

I have already learned a ton from this site while lurking and look forward to learning more.
