Welcome to the hobby and the forum.
I had freshwater tanks as a kid and always loved the brilliant colors of the Damsels I would see from time to time.
I bought two thin books on saltwater but couldn’t wrap my head around the concept. Eventually I found Saltwater For Dummies and set my first tank up by following the outdated advice. It may have been outdated but it made the basic concepts accessible. I foolishly tried to stay under a very limited budget back then.
Soon after I found an online forum called ReefLounge and learned so much from fellow hobbyists.
Then I found a local reef club and got a lot more support there. It was great to see everyone else’s systems.
From my club I realized that there are multiple ways to do things and what works well in one system may be difficult to reproduce in another system.
You will fail often and learn from your mistakes. Also your goals will change. The better you can visualize what your long term goals are and the more research and planning that you do to achieve it the better.
Keep updating your progress.
