My name is Matt and I live in Temecula, California. I have been in the saltwater aquarium hobby since I was kid (so about 35 years now). The last 15 years I mostly have had small tanks with lots of corals mostly SPS. Recently I decided to go bigger and purchased the Innovative Marine INT 150. This really is my dream tank I have gone full ”gear head” on this tank. Trying some new things like a calcium reactor. I’ve always dosed A & B. So far so good. All is going well just getting the hang of the new tank’s nuances. Still a work in progress, moving two 20 gallon tanks into one.

Welcome! Glad you joined.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID). In fact, why not just use what you have above to start another thread in the Member Tank area and keep it simple - you've got some GREAT photos already!

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Update. The tank has been running now for about 8 months on. Corals are growing fast. Finally got all of the corals moved into the tank. Suffered a few coral losses. Shortly after setting up the tank, I caught all of the fish and ran them thru QT with copper followed by Prazi. My black tang ended up with gill flukes. I think he got them from a percula clownfish that was placed into the QT tank with him. I thought he was a goner. At one point he was lying on the bottom of the tank. I tried many meds, API General Cure finally did the trick. The clownfish did not make it.

I added an Achilles tang after a month of QT and it is doing great. Eats like a pig. Going on 7 months with the Achilles in the tank. Never once has it showed any sign of Ich or other parasites. I credit the QT with copper and Prazi for my success with the Achilles (I followed the QT process laid out on Humble.fish) The Achilles tolerated the copper just fine. It did not eat for the first 3 days then started eating live brine, frozen brine/mysis, and even pellet food. Now it eats anything I put in the tank.

The tank has about 17 fish:

1-Black Tang
1- Achilles Tang
2-Yellow Tangs (one wild, one tank raised from Biota)
1-Blue Tang (rescued from Petco 7 years ago and was covered in velvet)
1-6 Line Wrasse
1-Target Mandarin
5-Chromis
2-Dispar Anthias
3-Orange Skunk Clownfish

Even with 5 tangs in the tank I deal with very little aggression. Every now and then I will see a frayed fin, but nothing bad. I added the yellow tangs, black tang and blue tang all at the same time. After the above described QT. The Achilles was added last and placed in a “peace keeper” box for three days in the main tank. The Peace Keeper was made by Marc at Melev’s Reef. This allowed the other fish to get used to the Achilles. When released into the tank the other tangs acted like the Achilles had been there the entire time. I feed dried nori everyday sometimes twice a day and at different parts of the tank.

The attached photos are from various times over the last 8 months. I did lose the bright green Aussie tabling coral, my favorite and oldest coral. I think it was lost due to a very large spike in iodine, caused by me mixing up my dosing hoses. According to an ICP test, my iodine was more than 20 times what it should have been.

Water Perameters:

Salinity - 1.025
Alk - 8.9 to 9.1 (Calcium Reactor is controlled by Neptune Apex/Trident)
Cal - 435 to 450
Mg - 1350 to 1375
Temp - 77.5
Nitrate - <10
Phosphate - .03
Potassium - 410

Lights
2-Neptune Sky’s
2-36” Reef Brite XHO Actinic lights.

I use a 50/50 mix of Red Sea Coral Pro and Regular Salt Mixes. This gives me an alkalinity and calcium level closer to the levels I run in the tank. Before changing water I make sure the new water has the same temp, salinity and alkalinity as the display tank.

I have battled some dinos and found running a 25 watt UV 24/7 helped eliminate them. Well that is all for now.

Thank you reef2reef for all of the information.
