Hi folks, my name is Phil and I started keeping marines in the late 1970s with undergravel filters and fluorescent tubes.
Eventually after much struggling I bought a Minireef in 1989 and things were a lot better. However in 2002 I left the matrimonial home and gave the tank away rather than lumber my ex wife with having to maintain it.
Moving on to September 2023 I bought a RedSea Minireef 120 litre plus sump as an existing system. The seller helped me drain and move it into my house and left me to set it up.
An incredibly steep learning curve followed. Very little of my previous 20 years experience was relevant so I had to learn on the hoof.
However, I do find I’m going around in circles with my nutrients. It seems very difficult to achieve stability with a smaller system unless you dose daily and test daily.
Or perhaps I’m just hamfisted?
Whatever…I’m able to keep fish and soft corals now that I could only dream about before.
