Hello,

I am starting my first saltwater aquarium ever in the next coming week or two.
I have had a small freshwater aquarium for the past 5 years and wanted to have a bigger aquarium. I finally purchased a 60 gallon tank last week and a co-worker encouraged me to make it a saltwater tank. Since then I have been reading all of your posts and using your advice to purchase everything that I will need to get started. Most items I have had to purchase online due to a huge lack of aquarium stores where I currently live. I am waiting for my sand to be delivered this week then I will start cycling. I am starting a FOWLR and the live rock will be minimal at first due to the high cost.

Well my tank has been filtering with just water for 1 week. Two days ago I added 60 lbs of sand and 60 lbs of rock (mix of live and dry). Still waiting for all of the sand to settle so that I can get a picture. At it's current rate I think at least another two days before everything settles, if not more. I wanted to test the water today but I realized once I got home that I purchased a Freshwater PH kit instead of Saltwater so I guess I am headed back to Petco tomorrow.

I foresee a long cycling period in my future but I am content just seeing the tank with the rock setup for now :).

Welcome home! You will love it here.

I too started off with freshwater tanks :)

2 month update. No plans to add anymore fish. My goal is stability so that I can add coral. Also will be buying a protein skimmer next week and then I will have all the equipment that I need..... I think.

I like the skeleton at the wheel. Very nice clean setup.
