I am going on a month of a fishless cycle and kinda unsure of the algae and if it’s just the ugly stage or should I be worried..

12 gal jbj nano dx
Upgraded pump
Filter floss added to middle chamber
Live substrate
Live rock
CUC

All levels are good as of now but haven’t tested phosphate yet.

Thank you for any help!

Yes, you are going through the ugly stage just let it run it’s course. The brown algae will cover literally everything including the glass don’t panic just let it run and it will eventually go away in about 2-3 weeks

My recommendation would be to turn the lights off (are not needed for cycling the tank and only add to nuisance algae and bacteria) and would also recommend to not bother testing until you perform an ammonia consumption test (if there is no livestock in the tank other than the bacteria!)

Once 4 weeks is up, add 1ppm ammonium chloride and test your ammonia level immediately after and again 24 hours after. You should see ammonia go from 1.0 ppm to 0.o ppm.

Then the tank is ready for lights on (a minimal schedule).

Hope this helps and good luck!

Oh and most importantly, #WelcometoR2R !
