I use lemon juice. I put it in a kids med syringe and get close to the mouth and blast the lemon juice in its mouth. Most of the time it works in one try. Every now and then it won't die and be back to normal in a few days. Then I just hit it agen

But won't ANY residue spread and create more or make it grow back
Not if you can snap a small piece of the rock its attached to. I prefer this over injections for a single Aptasia in a tank to totally avoid them going into reproduction mode due to stress. Especially in your case as its a small tank and I assume easy to take out that rock and treat it outside.
You can also scrap the rock with a screwdriver and make sure to take out all attachment point, flush with tank water outside and then return to tank.

The commercial products do a good job...a few year ago I had a huge explosion of them... I used Joes Juice and cleared them up very fast. It was also pretty cool watching them explode!!

Ok thank you all for the help. I'm going to try to use the peppermint shrimp and then if that doesn't not work I'm going to try one of the injections.

So I've been getting more of them and started to use lime juice which is working. Plus I don't like having putty spots all in my tank. Also bought a peppermint shrimp who is doing nothing but hiding.

I've seen videos of people killing aptasia with a laser pointer in seconds. Not sure what kind of laser pointer or how much but it's worth looking into

I've gotten rid of almost all except 2 with lime juice. Ones very tiny and ones big. They are in the back of the tank on the rock all the way at the bottom which makes it harder to reach. And they with draw when I get close. And my peppermint shrimp still stays in a whole in the rock. He comes out to give me the finger every now and then.
