I have some terrible news. Anyone whose been following my recent thread would know about a slowly receding wall hammer coral that I have. I was told it was stressed. Well, I did the old turkey baster test for BJD, and had the most unfortunate sight that a reefer could see. A bunch of brown jelly under some shrunken polyps. I feel sick to my stomach right now with anxiety. I don’t even know what to do. How can I stop this?? I’ve been doing everything to avoid this, yet it’s withering away... WHAT DO I DO?!

I would go ahead and dip it, place it in low flow, try and prevent the spread of it.

By the way I don’t have any iodine dip right now. I’d have to order some, though fear it wouldn’t come soon enough....

I have used cipro at .125 mg per liter to successfully treat bjd. A few others have used it as well. All of mine were done in a hospital tank.

Basically you take a 250mg cipro tablet and dissolve in a set amount of rodi water. Figure out your hospital tank volume and then dose however many ml of the solution to the hospital tank after the lights go out. Cipro degrades in light, so best to do it after lights out. Continue to do that for 7 days. You must remove all carbon, Uv and the take the cup off the skimmer.

Others have done this in a reef tank with no missies, but I have not so cannot chime in on that.

Have any lfs or local reefers you can borrow from? Is your entire hammer receding or just a piece of it.

Just asking what is the difference between BJD and euphyllia withering? When I use a turkey baster the polyps fly off and expel some brown goo. It certainly isn’t covered like I’ve seen pics of. It’s been doing poorly for a few weeks but I noticed some real problems today..

If it’s not actually a jelly substance, could be the flesh just going

Also, just noticed this, but am on my phone, so not the best quality.

Is this a hard calcified part or does it move? Kind of has the shape of a flat worm

That’s just a hard spur.
Ok, just checking. I just looked at your other thread as well.

I would suggest doing some tests, even if they are api. It is still a reading, just not 100% accurate.

For now, I would move the hammer to a bit more shade and monitor it. The fact the side in the most light is having the issue, makes it seem light related. Not saying the light is too bright, but maybe too bright for too little nutrients.

Also, if you have a lfs nearby, most will test all parameters for free or a small charge. That may be an option.

Sounds great! I moved it over, and took some pics of the whole top just to show what has flesh and what doesn’t. My pistol shrimp lives under it so moving it more than an inch would have upset him. In fact, moving it just an inch did upset him.
