I received this hybrid (white cheek x powder blue tang) yesterday. Delivery was delayed for some reason and he did sit on the truck all day until about 6pm. Although he was package well, lots of water and seemed well however I did noticed a small spot on his upper dorsal that was a little tatted. I did a quick dip in methane blue before into the currently unmedicated qt. Add with the lights out and hid as could be expected. This morning he is out swimming but his fins look bad, not aggression nipping though. Potentially something bacterial like fin rot? I’m not certain and not sure which route I should go next. Plan was to hopefully see him eat and start adding Copper Power. I’ll note that the qt is a Fluval 32g, There is a small Harlequin tusk and Naoko’s Fairy Wrasse that were added Sunday. And he came with a Red Head Solor Fairy Wrasse and small lightening maroon clown. He is significantly larger than everyone else and there is not aggression. Everyone else is swimming and eating. He is swimming with no signs of flashing or darting. But not eating. I have metroplex, chloroquine phosphate, nitrofurazone, prazipro and AAS nitro green on hand. Plan was copper power at 2.3 verified by Hanna, followed by two doses of prazipro. But I’m thinking if this is something bacterial the copper power will not help and potentially only make things worse.

Stay away from methelyne blue in saltwater and fish looks thin. Administer coppersafe for 30 days at 2.25ppm monitored with Hanna brand copper test kit. Do not ramp up but get t 2.25 within 24 hours

The mucus coming off the fins and the labored breathing and swimming are really serious…. Trouble is, I can’t tell you if this is from shipping damage or brooklynella.

The other two fish he came in with are eating and doing fine?

Yes the other two he came with are swimming good and eating. They have colored up nicely and are showing no signs of distress. Was a bit nervous about the clown but it is suppose to be a ORA captive breed. Although still can have brooklynella, just don’t see any signs with the clown.

Tough to say what direction to go in here - I don’t suppose you have a microscope?

Sorry, no microscope, unfortunately one of the few tools I don’t have. More because I don’t think I’d be wise enough to properly use and diagnose.

I know we are talk two dramatically different issues. What would be the different approaches?

I believe formalin bath is the preferred for Brooklynella. I have tired to avoid that stuff but I think Amazon could get it to me quick if necessary. Just trying to avoid subjecting to unnecessary, strong chemicals for both the fish and my household. Would an H2O2 bath and then treat the chloroquine phosphate potentially help? I had stopped using chloroquine and went back to the copper power and prazipro for dewormer.

First, the fish looks really rough, so any treatment is going to be risky due to added stress.

Ruby Reef Rally Pro at a 3x strength, for a one to three hour dip is sometimes effective against brooklynella and much safer than formalin. You would also want to dose the tank at the regular dose.
