I was moving some stuff in my sump and a hose came off one of my reactors. Needless to say salt water sprayed around. Everything came out ok except my DOS QD. I dried it off and plugged it back in and no power. So I took the back off and saw some minor corrosion on the circuit board. I cleaned it off with RODI, then vinegar, and then more RODI and dried it with a hair dryer.

When I plugged it back in I still saw some bubbles coming up around the circuit so I cleaned it again and am now letting it air dry.

Has anyone else had this happen, and if so were you able to recover the DOS QD? It’s an expensive piece of equipment to replace, but with Kalk being my primary supplement an essential one and this tank.

And if it’s not recoverable, can someone recommend an affordable pump I can buy for the interim that can reliably dose 2400 ml of Kalk a day?

I had a regular dos where the tubing got pinched inside the head. With every rotation a little spurt inside the head. Anyway, the dos fried. It was only a few months old and they refused to cover it. Had to purchase another.

The qd was supposed to be more resistant to this with the sealed rubber buttons. With that, if the fluid got to the side where the connectors are, or to the back where there are areas of ingress, it could be dead.

Other than the steps you’ve already done, I’m not sure much can be done. “Fix Reef” (I think is the company name, may be able to repair it. I forgot his handle on here but maybe someone will drop it for you.

As far as in the interim, you could manually dose kalk as we did in the Stone Age. Not sure how your ato is setup along with the qd, but one could disable the ato until you can dose kalk solution, rinse, wash, repeat as they say…until your qd is back up and running. Best of luck

Thanks. I think it’s a goner. Completely dried out and it won’t power up. I’ve been wanting to transition to Hydros anyways, I might look at one of their pumps as a first step. I use their system on 3 of my tanks now and I prefer it.

For the interim, can you really dose that much Kalk by hand? Wouldn’t it cause a ph or alk spike? I have some two part, I could go back to that I suppose.
