Ok guys so I got these 2 frags yesterday with my salt only paid 15 for both so yeah. anyways im not 100% sure what they are and I forgot what the guy said they where called. im trying to figure it out so I know where to place them.

One is Purple with orange spots and the other is green with orange, There both encrusting corals I think the green with orange is a meteor shower but not 100% sure can you guys help ID them and help me figure out where to place them. Thanks.

1+ on the bottom being a cyphastrea but when i saw the top i thought a chalice not a leptoseris. The yellow eyes.

I have seen a few leptos look exactly like that. But I think we need a better pic to be sure. Also judging by the price. A chalice would be a lot more money. For a orang with yellow eye piece

You are right a better pix is needed. I do not know what the frag cost but i would think a red leptoseris with that contrast in eyes would be more rare than a red chalice is yellow/orange eyes.

How can anyone make any kind of assessment on these with the photo quality are we just guessing here? I mean I can look at the general pix-elated outline of no. 2 and indeed it looks like a cyphastrea but the other one I mean it is so blurry how are you out ruling monti, chalice or any other encrusting coral?

Color and price. He paid $7.50 for each frag. The only monti that fits those colors is the the reef tech monti that isn't widely distributed and definitely not under $10. Could be a chalice. But IMO. A piece that size would not have that many eyes. And then it's just experience. After doing this for
11 years there aren't that many pieces that are hard to identify

Agree it could be a number of frags. But at that price any coral frag of that size would be a good deal. A better picture for the reddish one is needed . But every time i look at it another coral comes to mind. There was one time i asked could it be a favia? It could be a laptastrea or chalice. Still say it is not a leptoseris. Very few have eyes that contrast that much and if they do not that large.
