So my lfs is a bit sketchy and horrible at customer service, no worries though found a new one that will get all my business. Anyway, I bought this frag from the old store and was told it was a brain coral, but looking online I'm not so sure that is the case, can anyone please tell me what this is...the second one i was told is a "sea rod" but maybe someone can give me a bit more info on it as well...many thanks.

Welcome to R2R @doc_145!

The first looks like an acan to me. The second I am not sure, as closer images would certainly help.

It's possibly a gorgonian attached to something in a weird shape?

Does this help...I've thought gorgonian as well but like I said my lfs that I was going to seemed clueless, I'm sure they aren't, but they certainly lacked conversation lol.

Acan and a galaxea coral I don’t think it’s a GSP…as it doesn’t have a purple encrusting layer when closed and rather has individual heads/polyps like a galaxea. But I suppose it could be a very oddly shaped GSP. Can you take better photos of the coral open under white light?

I think the color is washed out in the white light photo.
It's spreading on the plug too. GSP will make those rolled tube looking things when it grows out over a void. 8 tentacles/polyp. Galaxea has several layers of tentacles with a couple dozen or more tentacles per polyp.

Some better pics would help.

1. Micromussa lordhowensis, not Acanthastrea
2. Briareum sp.
